Anhydrous magnesium sulfate (MgSO ₄) plays various important roles in water treatment, mainly reflected in the following aspects:
       1、 Softening agent
Anhydrous magnesium sulfate can be used as a water softener to remove hardness substances such as calcium and magnesium ions from water. By reacting with calcium and magnesium ions in water, insoluble calcium sulfate (CaSOx) and magnesium sulfate (MgSOx) are generated, thereby reducing the hardness of water.
       2、 Precipitant
In wastewater treatment, anhydrous magnesium sulfate can be used as a precipitant to remove heavy metal ions and suspended particles from water. It can form insoluble precipitates with heavy metal ions (such as lead, cadmium, etc.) in wastewater, thereby achieving the goal of purifying water quality.

       3、 Stabilizer
Anhydrous magnesium sulfate can also be used as a stabilizer in the water treatment process to adjust the pH value of water and prevent adverse effects of changes in water acidity and alkalinity on the treatment process.
       4、 Desiccant
Anhydrous magnesium sulfate has good hygroscopicity and can be used as a desiccant to remove moisture from water. It can react with water to generate magnesium sulfate heptahydrate (MgSO ₄· 7H ₂ O), thereby absorbing water.
Anhydrous magnesium sulfate plays various important roles in water treatment, including as a softener, precipitant, stabilizer, and desiccant. These functions make it have broad application prospects in the field of water treatment. When using anhydrous magnesium sulfate, the appropriate dosage and treatment process should be selected based on specific treatment requirements and water quality conditions to achieve the desired treatment effect.
